Good Monday morning to you all, and thanks for posting to this site your statements of support. This is an update on what is happening so far.
- We are still talking with Gobe and we do not have a complete picture yet of what they want to do or how much they need financially to release any source. We are asking for the BeOS source first, and see where things go from there.
- As the BeOS community is small (~2000 members worldwide at last estimate) it would not be realistic to have us attempt to generate the funds to release all versions. If there were some way to partner with the Linux community on this we would be happy to discuss with anyone who has actual ties to the community and real pull in generating press announcement.
- In the event that our discussions with Gobe lead to a real donations drive we have already developed a web site, in waiting, that is ready to go with full donation capabilities through a secure PayPal account. Paypal accepts secure international transactions as well.
- We are also in discussions with some companies that are willing to 'match' various levels of donation which will serious boost the amount of funds we can hope to generate. These companies are remaining anonymous, but are great supporters of BeOS and our community.
- The total funds so far is about $5000.00 US, this is after only 48 hours since we opened our doors to this issue.
Finally I would like to say that it's all about the people, you are the ones that will make this happen or not. I urge you all to go out and tell everyone you know about this issue and ask them to donate and generate press about this to the entire world. The more people that know about this the more likely it is to happen.
Thank you everyone.

President, beunited.org

Donation Pledge Reaches $10,000.00
beunited.org - Tuesday December 10 2002 - 11:30
In just 3 days beunited.org has been pledged over $10,000.00 by the public and corporate community for the release of Gobe Productive for BeOS. Linux users have also pledged, and we encourage more members of the Linux community to participate for the release of the Linux version. Call all your friends and send them over to beunited.org to help raise awareness!

A discussion is going on the ARS Technica website about the fund drive with comments from people from outside of the BeOS community. Here is the link:
http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=174096756&m=&r=
Head over and tell them why they should contribute to open-sourcing GP!
