Whew, I finally got BeOS 5 installed after days of trying. I ended up using BeOS5 PE Max to get a working installation. I have some questions below that I need help with (I'm somwhat new):
1. Is there a way to get back to the original BeOS tracker?
2. I have a GeForce4 MX, is there support somwhere for this? I'm using Vesa for now, but the video is not quite optimal.
3. Now that I have a working BeOS PE installation (I have this one and a BeOS4 install), is there a way I can get a professional install from my BeOS5 Pro CD? I have an AMD Athalon XP, so I have to have a patched kernel.
I'm a developer and am looking for a new hobby...the BeOS (OpenBeOS) looked like something I could sink my teeth into.
Thanks!

1) You have to copy back the old files if you have them (tacker, desktop and their library).
2) There is no support yet for GeForce 4. Even the Unified drivers don't work because NVidia has changed the 2d support of their chip and it is not 100% backwards compatible.
3) You can start the personal edition that is patched, mount the BeOS Pro CD, start the Installer (BeOS/Applications/Installer), select the CD rom for source, select an empty partition for target and complete the installation. After that mount the new BeOS partition from inside the personal edition and edit the Professional Edition kernel using diskprobe and change the second occurance of GenuineIntel with AuthenticAMD (case sensitive). Save it, and you have just patched the BeOS Pro Kernel to be Athlon XP compliant.
NOTE: when you install the Pro updates you will have to repeat the patching, because the updates change the kernel once again.

Answer to 2:
All that I can say is, try out these: http://www.bebits.com/search?search=GeForce. This is not specifically GeForce 4 support, but you never know
Otherwise, I think there might be a GeForce 4 driver in Zeta. Just hold on for that one

Thanks for the reply folks. What I ended up doing was just installing an old copy of R4 I had laying around on a small partition. Then I installed R5 Pro from there. Unfortunately, you don't get all the options (like dev tools) when installing from R4, so I had to do a second installation from the R5 Pro CD while in the new R5 installation. This worked with no problems.
As for the GeForce4, I hope that the new OS will support this.
Thanks for the help!
