As many of you have already noticed, development of Ozone has encountered many drawbacks like constant CPU and memory hogging, transfers hanging and sometime not starting at all. I personally have decided that we, users of Ozone, should really think, what we can do for getting Ozone back on development.

I am hoping that everyone who knows even a little about coding with MUSCLE, Qt and/or Windows API with C++, should visit http://ozone-o3.net and follow the instructions posted there and see if you can do anything to help getting a stable binary release of Ozone.

Current Ozone releases need Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and Qt 2.3.0 Non-Commercial Edition to compile on Windows.

We also need some more translations for Ozone. Currently there is English, Finnish and Portuguese translation available.

If you want to try to port current development tree of Ozone to another platform, please report all changes you needed to make it to compile back to me, so I can verify the results and alter the sources to include the changes. Best scenario is single code that uses just #ifdef's or #if defined()'s to branch for code for various different platforms.

Let's show to VitViper how grateful we are to him that we even had a little moment of joy connecting to BeShare servers under Windows.

Monni,

Thanks for putting up the poll. However, I don't believe that most of the people that use Ozone would know to come here and then be willing to register for the forum, like I just did, just to cast a vote.

I would love to see developement of Ozone continue in some form or another. Even if that is to use it as an example for an entirely new MUSCLE client. I would hate to lose the ability to connect to BeShare servers form Windows.

I realize that you and especially VitViper were always confronted with people like meself, who seemed to just point out what was wrong with Ozone. I can't speak for everyone, but I did it in order to help make Ozone better. I guess I just forgot to say "Thank you" to VitViper also.

As VitViper is no longer distributing Ozone, and the license under which Ozone was released prohibits distribution of the compiled product, what is to happen next? I eagerly await the answer.

I did put URL for this poll in my status on beshare.tycomsystems.com and some of my friends will mention it too on the main chat.

I did talk about this with VitViper and he did gave me permission to do binary builds of both Unizone and Ozone. Unizone has been and will be a limited version of the current development release of Ozone.

Main difference between Unizone and Ozone is planned to be that latest Ozone sources doesn't always work correctly because of new "not fully tested" features and Unizone will work better because it will have those features only if I think that they are worth releasing and enough tested to be qualified for "beta" level testing.

Given that my HD with BeOS died last week icon_evil.gif I have recently been using Ozone with little hassle... icon_smile.gif

... but just WHAT exactly would be needed to bribe Vit Viper new_angel.gif

.............. just kidding icon_smile.gif

I do think it is extremely valuable for the growth of the community however, so some continuance of development is indeed in order.

btw Thanks HEAPS VitViper !! icon_cool.gif
