ripped from Ars' forum;
according to the Folding web page, they should be rolling out Gromacs WU to people with the -advmethods switch in the next couple days. What this means is that anybody who is running an SSE or AltiVec enabled processor should make sure to run their clients with adv methods, because you should be able to get more points with the gromacs core, because the SSE/AltiVec optimizations are not compensated for in the weighting system. The Pentium 4 especially recieves a boost from the optimizations, as much as 7-8x the points as with the tinker core (!!!) I don't have any data on the G4 but I assume it will also get an especially large boost. Athlon XP's get something like a 30% boost also.
It will be intersting to see if this is infact the case, as far as I am aware GIMPS, and SOB are the only clients where the P4's excell.

Folding@Home in earnst. I was not too impressed with the project due to the lack of cacheing, and the servers were not very reliable at that time. Another concern was the lack of a good way to moniter the clients across a LAN, much less across the Internet. The reliablity of the folding servers made this a must if running on a number of machines.
I have been "testing" the client again, this time version 3.X? for about a day or so now. I am happy to report that I have had no issues with the client or the servers so far (fingers crossed) Still, not trusting completely I decided to go looking for a monitering program and came across Electron Microscope. A very nifty program indeed, it has more features than you could possibly need, combined with the ability to generate html files for export to a webserver. This fits my need for monitering the clients completely. I would reccomend this program to anyone running the client across a LAN.
The program can be found here -->
