Hello everyone,
(this message has also been posted to the beosonline.com forums)
I recently discussed Zeta with a buddy of mine. It seems there is an abundance of rumors concerning Zeta's codebase, but very
few facts remain.
Fact 1:
YellowTAB secured an agreement with Be Inc. to
distribute BeOS R5 PE. This agreement is also
honoured by Palm.
Fact 2:
YellowTAB has at some point been engaged in
negotiations with Palm over access to (some of)
the source code to BeOS.
Speculations and rumors:
1) Zeta is based on (parts of) Dano (the version of BeOS
that was supposed to superseed R5, incorporating among other
things the enhanced networking stack known as BONE)
2) Zeta is based on a spruced up BeOS R5 PE with some parts
swapped out (a bit unlikely?)
On yellowTAB's webpage, it says that Zeta is more than Dano, R5 etc.
thus effectively negating the above two rumors.

I can't help but wonder what is going on?
Can anyone offer any insights to this?
Cheers,
/Rune

Hi,
why don't you just wait for it, but it, than you will see what it is based on. Why is it so important what it is based on? In the yT Forum you can read that it run's nearly all app's that run on R5 so what is the problem?!

Misinformation is one of the problems. For instance, they claim to support Radeon 9700 in their hardware listings. How do we know that's true? AFAIK the current driver on BeBits doesn't support the 9700, and the info needed from ATI to support the 9700 hasn't been given to anyone in the BeOS community to add such support. So where does the info come from that is posted on YTs site? My guess is they assume it'll work without even trying it. Has anyone tested Zeta on a 9700? If I'm wrong please let me know.

The 9700 driver is not a free driver rather a driver that comes with zeta. It is new and build at the boys that make the9700.
