Am helping a friend with an P200 PC with 1GB HD and 600MB Free (by Win98) to install BeOS 5.0.1

It starts until get message: There is not enough space on drive C: to extract this package.

Thought BeOS5 only needed 500MB? Appreciate any suggestions or help.

Thanks
Gene

I presume you're trying to install PE. Though it installes in 500MB, it needs more space for the install, temp space. At least it's a conclusion i can see has possible, since i haven't done that in close to 3 years now.

The BFS image is around 500 MB, but the package contains more files than just the image, for example tools to make a boot floppy and a boot loader to launch it directly from Windows.

You need to run defrag on your disk. You also need keep unmovable units out of the 500meg area.
The image.be file gets installed as a contigious file.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!

Think I forgot to mention, the MoBo Chipset is a SiS 5571 and wonder if BeOS5 fully supports it?

Update:

Have only used Intel CPUs and chipsets for BeOS so thought the P200 was Intel now seems to be a Cyrix CPU.

Checked Frizbe: hardware matrix and some Cyrix CPUs are supported and some SiS chipsets are also
but for many of both there is no info.

Does anyone know if there have been BeOS drivers made for both Cyrix and SiS? If so where do I find them?

Thanks
Gene

You are on the wrong track. The message said not enough room.
Yes, some cyrix's stink. Ya gotta try it if it isn't listed exactly at frizbe.net or at www.tycomsystems.com

Jefro,

Hope you are correct!! Am thinking of trying Win95B instead of Win98 1st ed as base OS. Should give some extra HD space.

Anyone know of any Probs using BeOS 5 PE with Win95B?

Thanks
Gene
