For any of you that may acquire Corum III in the near future, I have run across a problem with the distribution media and/or a problem involving BeOS R5.0.4 Developer edition. I think it is more likely just a problem with the media. Here is what is known:

I have been working with Chris Herborth and Gord McLeod at NGE and we have pinpointed the problem. For whatever reason the ISO9660 image on the distribution media is unreadable. You can test this by trying to mount the disk in Windows. However, I have been able to successfully extract the ISO image using Roxio on my Windows box and reburn it onto a blank CD. In this manner I was able to get the data files required to make it work. Don't know if anyone has an interest in solving the problem, but just as a heads up should you run into this problem. I requested new media from GoBe which they promptly shipped, but the problem existed on the new media as well.

I bought the game when I bought BoOS 5 Pro from Gobe software. I preceded to update everything with drivers found on bebits.com including the on ISO9660 addon. Afterwards I tried to install the game and all I got was a mounted volume containing a single number. I removed the ISO9660 addon and the game mounted just fine. The above should solve the problem, just remove the ISO9660 addon.

Thanks. I didn't install this module you are talking about so unless it came with the BeOS 5.0.4 distribution I don't see that as the issue. As I said in another post, I was able to reburn the ISO image onto a new disk after reading it into Roxio or Nero I don't remember which. After that it worked fine. Definitely something screwy and it probably has to do with the 5.0.4 distribution.

Thanks for the post. How are things in Springfield?

The problem is not wether you installed the modual or not, since there was no official BeOS 5.0.4. The highest offical BeOS version (from Be Inc.) was 5.0.3. BeOS 5.0.4 Development Edition was an unoffical ISO distribution of BeOS 5 PE (Personal Edition) with updated drivers from www.beosonline.com. The following was from their web page:

News: 2002/03/23 - Release 5.0.4 renamed in BeOS Developer Edition Version 1.0

F: Why you use the name "BeOS Developer Edition 1.0"?
Q: To give a sign to the world, that beos is still alive. Surely we could have used an own version system but new BeOS user would just be confused. In fact, "BeOS Developer Edition 1.0" include many new Drivers and Tools from BeBits and Bezip and own compiled Libraries and Tools. The installation is now possible for users that can not installed the beos with Version 5.0.3 on their hardware.

and under the "New Drivers section":

CDBurn Driver iso9660 with multi-session support

Since the the ISO9660 addon that I was refering to was found on bebits.com, it may have been the same driver mentioned in their "new drivers" list.

Uh...Isn't that what I just said? icon_rolleyes.gif

Doesn't matter if it is official or not, if it was included with 5.0.4 then yes I'm using it. Since I haven't been actively using it I couldn't tell you if it is loaded or not. The problem for me is solved so I'm not really concerned about it. Yes it probably is loaded if the 5.0.4 contained the latest updates from BeBits.

Since these updates didn't exist at the release of CorumIII then it follows that it was never tested with them and thus doesn't work. However, you can work around it by just burning yourself a new CD with Roxio. Never hurts to have a backup disk anyway.
