That's right... TBJ has arranged an interview with Rudolf Cornelissen and Thoma Kurschel, and we're asking for your help.

Rudolf is the author of the (open)BeOS Matrox MGA driver, located here:

http://www.bebits.com/app/3080

Thomas is the author of the ATI Radeon graphics driver, located here:
http://www.bebits.com/app/2938

Please post any questions you may have in this forum, and we will compile the top 10 interesting ones, along with a few of our own to keep things fun. icon_wink.gif

(EDIT) We'll wait until the end of the year before collecting questions... (EDIT)

Good luck!

I run a G400 dualhead in my main BeOS machine. I haven't gotten hardware overlay to work no matter which app I use or which option (like magic overlay in nplay). Is this a limitation of the apps or a limitation of the driver, and will this ever get fixed in either case? I've been building a machine of lesser parts that's been running fine, so if I can't get any overlay going, I might put that SiS card back in and sell my good cards off.

OK, not too many questions here already...
Let's try these:
Where did you get all the infos/specs to write the Matrox driver? Is everything freely available or do you have a special contact to the Matrox guys? What about coding drivers for future models, assuming you'd be provided with a card and the infos for those are also available?
You seem to be quite into hardware tinkering. Ever thought about looking into a USB-Geekport etc. as Michael Phipps suggested in the latest OBOS newsletter?

Hmmm, can't think of more right now.

Have you thought about working on 3D in the future?

PostPosted: Thu Nov 28, 2002 2:50 pm    Post subject: DV-I Support for the Matrox G550? Reply with quote

I saw a BeOS machine working with a G550 Card on a TFT Display. Although both components had DV-I Connectors, no access was possible through BeOS, so Analog out had to be used.
As you might know, DV-I is the better solution for TFT Display.
Will there be any support ?
Regards

P.S.: same goes to the ATI RadeON for Thomas'Driver as well icon_wink.gif.
since you can get a good Radeon-Chip based Card with DV-I for lesst than 100$....

I tested a bundled UDMA 133 Controller of Maxtor, which are included in a 160 GB Retail Drive Kit on BeOS (Promise Ultra133 Chip).
Guess what - the Disks could be properly mounted with the IDE Replacement Driver.
And guesss more - the HD showed about 152,7 GB of usable space - which means UDMA Mode 6 is supported with this driver (UDMA 100 only mapps ~ 132 GB...).
Regards..
P.S.: you need the bfs driver of Dano to initialize partitions larger than 60 GB ;-\
Didn't tried OpenBFS yet....Hopefully they respect this fact icon_rolleyes.gif

The IDE Replacement works fine (although there is frequent Resets on the bus).
How about U160/U320 - SCSI Support?
Will there be any at least for OBOS?
Regards....
