Ok... This forum will contain a poll that has 61 names as submitted by YOU. (good job everyone.)

Please register, and vote.

The poll will last until Tuesday, October 29th, 21:00.

At that time, the top 25 voted names will be put into round 3, where we can pick the top 10, and finally, the top choice.

good luck to all.

**correction** There were 61 names, not 60.

I don't see any one name on this list either that "pops" out as a clear choice. I can see where they had a hard time getting the 15 they proposed. Then when you do narrow it down and research the choices some you find other issues, take ZeOS for one. Zeos is the name of a now out of business PC maker, I believe the name and assets are now owned by Micron PC.
Firefly and Mantis sound cool until you check and find this:

Boom! Two good names taken out by one company!

You also need to keep in mind the companies that are(using BeOS)/may be using the new OS in their products:

http://www.edirol.com/

Be sure you can picture the name of the OS in one of their ads:
We use ______ in our __name_of_product__.

Your opinion. I think all these names are better than the original 15. As for legal issues, the 15 names proposed originally had much more sources of trouble than I can see in this list, including the problems with available websites.

As you yourself said, firefly and mantis seem to be problematic (they are not that cool, either), indigo seems to be problematic from several points of view, and I don't really remember the other names, but I remember that they were no-no for copyright issues.

To be honest I think all the names on this list suck compared to the obos list.

It seems pretty stupid to not re-include the names that were on the obos poll.
talk about making the poll fair.. it is biased! new_cussing.gif

If it gets chosen as one of these polls names, then i'm just gonna have to re-label my beos button icon_razz.gif

Anyone could have put the 15 names from the OBOS poll into our poll here.

I chose not to interfere, and simply asked the community at large about their submissions. I imposed a small time limit in the interest of making this a speedy vote, but that in no way hindered the quality of the names.

Again, if OBOS and crew want to snub our list, or end choice, that is fine... But no one can say that I didn't give it a fair chance, or not offer an alternative.

I will not be happy until an official statement comes out from both OBOS and beunited.org. I openly question the original voting process, and ask for comments from everyone.

I am willing to stand up for what I believe in. Are you? Is anyone else? BeOS is -THAT- important to me, that I would even risk the wrath of Palm Inc, or Be Inc., or even JLG himself, on this issue.

Bring it on. icon_eek.gif

So then why didn't you do just that? You had ample time to submit whatever the heck you wanted! You could have submitted ALL those 15 names! And you complain now? Are you stupid?

Hello,

This poll should be posted on BeGroovy, TotallyBe et al for more publicity - there are MUCH too few votes to be of any statistical relevance...

I voted for Beast BTW (I suggested this name on the OSNews-forum, dunno who added it;)

Good luck for our new name, I hope we can agree on a decent one,
Hugh
