Hi,
That would be great to define the componements of a standard BeBox ][ ..
IMO, it should be a tiny box with no floppy, no PS/2, no COM, ect.. just usb; also it must be really quiet.
So what would be the perfect box for you ?

No Com ports means that we wouldn't be able to use the IRMan. IRMan + Spiceykeys = very, very nice.

If you were to hold true to the original BeBox - it should include _EVERYTHING_, midiports, RCA jacks, geekport and all.

Can IRMan be used via a usb connection instead?
I thought there were usb IR devices that could be attached to a usb hub, and function just like their com counterparts.
I shall do some investigating regardless, as I want to know.

I found something interesting:

kinda looks like a nice choice for a mini-be box

just need to finish booting to an OBOS screen that can be seen across the room and a remote control mouse.

Try this
http://www.opencreators.org/
They have hardware specs and ideas for case.
On thing I have heard that sounds really cool is a Sphere.
Why stick to the design of the original?? This is the "NEW" bebox. Keep it's distinguishing featers aka. Pulse lights, Geek port and miriad of inputs. But try something totally new. I don't think the purpose of making a new BeBox is for profit, but more for status and desire.
Maybe a pyramid, or sphere........ cube has been done.
A theory i have had for a while is"
For get "Slots" pci agp etc. Have everything as a module , connected with usb 2.0 or firwire. Like have evrything be it's own seperate piece.
You have the mobo/cpu/ram. In one smallish cube/sphere/shape, And everything else has it's own seperate case, be it the same shape or not. It is not one unit. So if you want a video card, you plug in a nifty looking cube ... more ram you plug in a cylinder. It will be a work of art. It should all be hot swapable. Just an Idea. I will mock something up in photoshop.
p.s. by plug in, I mean with a cable/cord. Trying to get away from "hard" plug in's like slots.
